#185  Primitive Folk Art Santa with Tree

I have an extreme love of Santa, and am excited to offer this Primitive guy, who is my own design, to bring in a little Christmas cheer to your home.
He measures 14" tall, and can be seated or hung from the floss hanger I've sewn onto his back.
He's made from heavily stained muslin, to give him a well worn and timeless look.
Santa is dressed in a traditional red and white suit, made from vintage red bedspread, trimmed with stained Warm & Natural batting, and red/gold upholstery trimmings.
Three vintage mis-matched white buttons are sewn onto the front of his suit.
His cap is also made from the same materials, and has a small rusty jingle bell pinned on.
Sheeps wool has been needle felted into place for his beard and mustache, and I've used artist's pencils to draw his facial features. They have been sealed to prevent fading or smearing.
In his arm, he holds a small evergreen, which I made from muslin, then painted and applied German Glass Glitter.
Small glass marbles and a string of sequins adorn his Christmas tree.
He has a stained raffia tied hang tag, which has been pinned to his sleeve.

#232  Primitive Folk Art OoAK Traditional Olde World Santa

This OoAK Olde World 17" Santa is new for 2009 by Little Sister's Dolls.
I have recycled various vintage fabrics and trims in his construction.
He stands alone – made from a weighted base, wrapped in vintage off-white upholstery fabric. Along the bottom of the base, I’ve sewn on soft black leather, and finished it with vintage off-white upholstery trim. A strip of vintage black velvet trimmed in tiny black rick rack is used for his belt, with a vintage plastic buckle.
His coat is made from vintage red wool and trimmed in faux fur. I have him photographed on a wooden stand, to show how his coat drapes nicely around him. His black painted mittens peek from his fur cuffed sleeves. Atop his hood, I’ve sewn on a small rusty jingle bell. Under his left arm, he carries a dark green velvet bag, with gold cording. It has a red/green/navy tassel and a small wooden train hanging from the outside, and a small wooden nutcracker tucked inside. In the crook of his right elbow, I’ve given him a small handmade evergreen.
His face is made from osnaburg. I’ve needle stitched his nose, and have used a combination of artist’s pencils, acrylic paint and oil pastels to detail his features. A small piece of red wool is sewn into place for his mouth. An off-white nappy faux fur is sewn into place for his beard and mustache.
